The Chinese men's and women's national under-19 basketball teams are in full preparation for the World Cups, the Chinese Basketball Association said Tuesday.
A total of 14 male players and 24 female players are currently in training sessions with the national teams, with the lists to be shortlisted for the respective World Cups later.
The men's under-19 World Cup will take place in Lausanne, Switzerland, from June 28 to July 5, while the women's edition runs from July 12 to 20 in Brno in the Czech Republic.
China's young men's team is grouped with 2024's under-18 AmeriCup bronze medalist Canada, under-18 European winner Germany and third-placed Slovenia.
The best record for the men's team in the U19 World Cup was in 2013 when they finished in seventh place. Current star center Zhou Qi was one of the major contributors for the 2013 mini-achievement.
China's young women's team is grouped with 2024's African under-18 silver medalist Nigeria, under-18 EuroBasket's fifth-placed Portugal and under-18 AmeriCup silver medalist Canada.
The women's under-19 team finished the FIBA U19 World Cup in third place in 2005, with two fifth-place finishes in 2013 and 2019.
For the senior men's national team, the short-term goal is the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup, which will take place in August. Meanwhile, their eyes are already on the preparation for the 2026 Asian Games, the 2027 World Cup and the 2028 Olympics.
The women's senior national team is also preparing for the women's Asia Cup, which will take place in July in Shenzhen in South China's Guangdong Province.
On the sidelines of the media event on Tuesday, the CBA also introduced a domestic youth basketball competition data report, which covers 16 categories of competitions, including domestic youth basketball and intercontinental basketball events.
It breaks down and subdivides the quality and quantity of offensive performances, analyzes development trends, makes decisions from a developmental perspective, and studies basketball through structured comparisons.
