A total of 130 Chinese companies are listed in this year’s Fortune Global 500, with the automotive, high-tech, and internet companies showing strong growing momentum, according to the latest list released on Tuesday. 

Among the top 10 companies, China’s State Grid ranks the third, followed by China National Petroleum in fifth place, followed by the Sinopec.

Walmart leads the list globally, followed by Amazon. Saudi Aramco ranks the fourth, with UnitedHealth Group, Apple, CVS Health, and Berkshire Hathaway occupying the seventh to 10th spots, respectively.

This year, China had a total of 130 companies on the list, with 124 from the Chinese mainland (including those from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region) and six from China’s Taiwan island, according to Fortune’s Chinese-language press release.

Among the 124 companies from the Chinese mainland and the HKSAR, 49 witnessed an increase in the rankings. 

In 2024, the total revenue for the 130 companies was approximately $10.7 trillion, accounting for 26 percent of the 500 listed firms’ total revenues, while the average sales reached $82 billion. The average profit for companies from the Chinese mainland and the HKSAR was $4.2 billion, marking a year-on-year increase of 7.4 percent. 

In the automotive sector, 10 Chinese automakers made the list. Chery’s revenue rose from $39.1 billion to $59.7 billion, climbing 152 spots to the 233rd place. BYD jumped 52 places to 91st, breaking into the top 100 for the first time. Geely advanced 30 positions, with revenue increasing from $70.4 billion to $79.9 billion. These firms are accelerating China's global push in EV, the press release read. 

Notably, BYD has outpaced Tesla in the electric-car race and is taking on Volkswagen in Europe, according to a separate Fortune report. 

In the internet sector, five Chinese internet platform giants – JD.com, Alibaba, Tencent, Pinduoduo, and Meituan – grew amid a competitive landscape, all rising in the rankings. Pinduoduo jumped 176 slots to the 266th, the biggest leap among Chinese companies after making a debut last year. Meituan rose 57 places to the 327th. JD.com climbed 3 spots to the 44th place.

In the high-tech sector, 2024 was a year marked with rapid growth, with global companies reporting significant profit gains. The 2025 Fortune Global 500 includes 34 high-tech firms, with average revenue of $96.7 billion and profits of $18.1 billion, up 9.6 percent and 24 percent, respectively from a year earlier. 

The report noted that Huawei remains the leader among Chinese high-tech companies, maintaining its sales growth this year with total revenues approaching $120 billion.

Huawei returned to the top 100 of the Fortune Global 500 list after two years, ranking the 83rd in 2025, up 20 places from a year earlier, according to thepaper.cn.

Among the 34 high-tech firms on the Fortune list, 15 are from the US, while the remaining 19 are from other parts of the world, including six from the Chinese mainland.
